As we approach the last quarter of 2017, it is hard to believe we are in the middle of September already, there are a few deadlines looming and several activities approaching. Here we include a list of a couple of award nominations and a few activities of interest. Act now if you want to nominate somebody for the awards or register for the activities.

Award nominations

    • American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) 2018 Migel Medal
      Award nominations are due by October 15, 2017
      The Miguel Medal honors professionals and volunteers whose dedication and achievements have significantly improved the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired. Visit AFB Nominations page to learn more.

 

  • American Foundation for the Blind 2018 Corinne Kirchner Research Award
    Award nominations are due on October 15, 2017
    Qualified candidates are individual researchers or research teams who have, through published work, made groundbreaking contributions to the field of blindness and low vision. The award recognizes research that employs a novel approach or investigates a new area of inquiry with the potential to impact policy or systems change. Conferences and other events

    • National Association of the Deaf (NAD) - 2017 Leadership Training Conference
      October 5-7, 2017 at The Skirvin Hilton, Oklahoma City
      The conference is specifically tailored for deaf and hard of hearing individuals who wish to enhance their leadership skills for the workplace and for community involvement.  “Plenary presentations and breakout session topics will include promoting diversity and sharing of diverse viewpoints, being a change agent, staying on top of leadership trends, mentoring up and coming leaders, mastering effective communication, serving on boards, exercising fiduciary responsibility, and honing effective use of blogs and social media.” Visit the conference’s site to find more information and register. 

 

    • Closing the Gap - 35th Annual Conference

      This conference is a place for people to learn about technologies used by people with disabilities in education, rehabilitation, vocation, and independent living.  Participants will have many opportunities to learn, first-hand, from experts in the field.     • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Accessibility Innovations Expo
      October 23, 2017 at Pepco Edison Place Gallery at 702 8th St NW, Washington, D.C
      This event will feature innovative technologies that impact the daily lives of consumers with disabilities.  In the health arena, it will show cutting-edge broadband-enabled solutions that advance the ability of persons with disabilities to fully benefit from the connected health revolution. 

 

    • The 2017 ICT Accessibility Testing Symposium: Automated & Manual Testing, WCAG 2.1, and Beyond
      Thursday October 26 & Friday October 27, 2017 - Washington D.C
      This symposium presents workshops, papers, and panelists from universities, government and organizations involved with accessibility.   Track 1 of the symposium focus on Manual & Automated Web Testing.
