We are thrilled to announce that Dicapta has been awarded a new grant by the US Department of Education.  This grant, sponsored by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, provides funds for the 5-year project, “Captions and Video Description: Educational Tools for Hispanic Children with Disabilities.”

The project’s main goal is to provide high quality video description and captioning for educational TV programming appropriate for use in a classroom setting.  It will serve Hispanic children who are either deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision.

Besides providing video description and captioning for audiovisual material, we will be designing training for special education teachers and delivering workshops to parents of children with sensory disabilities. Our overarching goal is to give these children equal access to educational television in the classroom.

We are honored to have a remarkable group of partners for this project such as:  HITN, Somos TV / Semillitas and Discovery En la Escuela.

Dicapta has been serving the Hispanic community since 2005, and this project helps us to continue to focus on providing people with hearing or visual disabilities an opportunity to have equal access to information.

More on the project soon!
